Preparing for 2026 Charitable Contribution Tax Changes

Starting in 2026, the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 2021 (OBBBA) reshapes charitable contribution rules for all taxpayers.

The New AGI Floor

If you itemize, a 0.5% Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) floor takes effect. You can only deduct giving that exceeds 0.5% of your AGI, reducing the tax benefit of smaller donations for many of our Gilbert, AZ clients.

Non-Itemizer Relief

Conversely, taxpayers using the standard deduction gain a new cash contribution write-off: up to $1,000 for single filers and $2,000 for joint filers.
